PROFILE

Dr Peter J. Hosie is the Academic Program Director for the Master of Strategic Human Resource Management with the Faculty of Business and Management at the University of Wollongong in Dubai. He is a Certified Professional with the Australian Human Resource Institute and Affiliated Researcher, Australian Institute of Business Wellbeing. In 2009 he received the UOWD Excellence in Research Award.

 

Peter has taught undergraduates and graduates and been a Subject Coordinator for Human Resource Management (Strategic, International, Development), Performance Management, Job Analysis, Recruitment and Selection, Organisational Theory, Organisational Structure and Design in the United Arab Emirates, Australia, Singapore, China, Taiwan, Vietnam and Austria.

 

During 2004–7 he was a CBS Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Curtin Business School, Curtin University, where he is an Adjunct Senior Research Fellow. As an Instructional Designer with Cowan University from 2000-2004 he led projects to produce effective instructional design for a variety of educational resources; online units, multimedia, video and print.

 

Peter is the lead author (with Peter P Sevastos and Cary L Cooper) for the book, Happy-Performing Managers: The Impact of Affective Wellbeing and Intrinsic Job Satisfaction in the Workplace published in 2006 by Edward Elgar. A peer review process selected it as one of the ‘most promising management books of the future’ for an invited keynote presentation at the high-profile book track at the 2006 European Academy of Management conference. His latest book (co-edited with Christof Pforr), Crisis Management in the Tourism Industry: Beating the Odds? was published by Ashgate in 2009.

 

Peter has extensive employment and consulting experience as an Instructional Designer and Educational Developer. His work has involved the delivery of many innovative human resource development, education, and training initiatives and the design, development and production of a wide range of learning resources. As an experienced manager of projects and people, Peter brings a disciplined and commercial approach to leading and managing new learning ventures. He has been involved in all aspects of creating and producing a host of education, training, documentary television and multimedia programs, including being Associate Producer for the Age of Armageddon, a 52 minutes documentary about 9/11.

 

Peter’s distinguished academic and research track record has yielded over 94 refereed publications. This work is widely cited and referenced in numerous international publications. Peter has also developed policy and conducted quantitative and qualitative research resulting in the publication of 56 practitioner articles and technical reports. He reviews for several international journals.
